1. Format

1.1. Each Mystery Length competition features one (1) nominated species for the relevant competition period.

1.2. Before the competition opens, Strike & Scale sets a target length for that competition. The target length is expressed in centimetres to the nearest half centimetre (0.5 cm).

1.3. The target length is not disclosed to Members at any time while the competition is open. It is published only after the competition has closed and the result has been finalised.

1.4. The winner is the eligible entry whose verified length is closest to the target length, whether above or below it. A catch 1 cm longer than the target and a catch 1 cm shorter than the target are equally close.

1.5. The longest catch does not win. Likes and votes do not determine the Mystery Length winner.

1.6. The target length is set by Strike & Scale in advance. It is not generated at random, and it is not drawn or selected during the competition period.

2. Eligibility

2.1. Mystery Length is available to:

  • a) eligible active Fingerling subscribers;
  • b) eligible active Schoolie subscribers; and
  • c) Members holding a valid Monthly Unlock for the relevant period.

2.2. Free Fry Members do not receive Mystery Length access through their base tier.

2.3. Mystery Length is an 18+ competition. Fingerling, Schoolie and Monthly Unlock are all 18+ products, and Members aged 16 or 17 may participate on the Platform only through a Free Fry Account. A Member aged 16 or 17 therefore cannot enter Mystery Length.

2.4. Professional Anglers are not eligible to enter, as set out in the Competition Rules.

3. Species

3.1. Each Mystery Length competition nominates one species, displayed on the Platform for that competition period.

3.2. Only catches of the nominated species are eligible.

3.3. Species are selected from those Strike & Scale considers reasonably available across Australia, so that Members are not excluded by the region in which they fish. The nominated Mystery Length species may differ from the Monthly Species Challenge species for the same period.

4. Entries

4.1. The Mystery Length entry allowance is three (3) entries per Member per day. The day runs from midnight to midnight, Sydney time.

4.2. There is no separate weekly or monthly entry limit. A Member may enter on every day of the competition period, up to the daily allowance, provided each entry is an eligible catch of the nominated species.

4.3. An entry that is later rejected, disqualified or removed still counts toward that day’s limit.

4.4. Mystery Length entries are separate from Weekly Best Catch and Monthly Species Challenge entries and do not consume either allowance.

4.5. A catch may be entered into Mystery Length in addition to other competitions where it is otherwise eligible for them.

4.6. Entry into Mystery Length must be deliberately selected at the point of upload. A catch is not entered into Mystery Length automatically, even where the species matches.

4.7. Entries must be submitted during the published competition period. An entry submitted outside that period is not eligible, regardless of when the catch was made.

5. Catch and Measurement Requirements

5.1. Catch and measurement requirements must comply with the current Photo & Catch Submission Rules, including:

  • a) the catch must be the nominated species;
  • b) the catch must be legal where caught;
  • c) the required verification code must be physically visible where required;
  • d) Angler ID, date and other evidence must be included where specified;
  • e) where required, the fish must be laid flat on a hard stable surface;
  • f) an appropriate metric measuring mat or device must be used;
  • g) the required measurement points and scale must be clearly visible; and
  • h) the verified measurement accepted by Strike & Scale is the measurement used to determine the result. The length entered by the Member at upload is not used.

5.2. Strike & Scale will not request replacement catch photos, measurement photos or supplementary evidence after submission.

5.3. If the evidence supplied is insufficient, the entry is rejected or marked ineligible.

5.4. An entry with no verified measurement cannot be ranked and cannot win.

6. Winner Determination

6.1. The provisional winner is the eligible entry with the smallest difference between its verified length and the target length, measured in either direction.

6.2. Where two or more eligible entries record the same difference from the target, the higher placing is awarded to the entry submitted to Strike & Scale first, determined by the Platform’s original submission timestamp.

6.3. The same rule applies when determining subsequent tied placings where required.

6.4. The following are not used as a Mystery Length tie-break:

  • a) catch time;
  • b) photo time;
  • c) moderation approval time;
  • d) verification completion time;
  • e) number of likes or votes; or
  • f) a judging panel.

6.5. An entry that exactly matches the target length does not end the competition early. The competition runs for its full published period, and an exact match is ranked under clauses 6.1 and 6.2 like any other entry.

7. Leaderboard and Standings

7.1. No live leaderboard, ranking, standing or closeness indicator is published for Mystery Length while a competition is open. Publishing any of these would disclose the target length.

7.2. Members are not told during the competition how close their entry is to the target.

7.3. The full result, including the target length, the winner and the winning measurement, is published after the competition closes and the result is finalised.

8. Prizes

8.1. The Mystery Length competition uses a seeded cash prize pool.

8.2. Each Mystery Length competition period starts with a seeded base amount shown on the competition page for that period.

8.3. The prize value increases during the competition period by a share of eligible Membership revenue, as displayed on the Platform.

8.4. The live prize value displayed on the Platform for the relevant competition period is the applicable prize value. It may increase further where Strike & Scale adds funding or a supplementary sponsor-supplied prize.

8.5. Payment of a Membership fee does not give a Member ownership interest in the prize pool. Prize entitlement arises only after a winner is validly determined and confirmed.

9. Activity Points

9.1. A catch entered only into Mystery Length awards 2 Activity Points, rather than the standard catch upload award.

9.2. There is no separate weekly limit on Activity Points earned from Mystery Length entries. The daily entry allowance in clause 4.1 is the only limit that applies.

9.3. A catch entered into Mystery Length in addition to the Weekly Best Catch or the Monthly Species Challenge receives the standard catch upload Activity Points award and is not reduced by the Mystery Length entry.

9.4. Activity Points may be reversed or voided where Strike & Scale reasonably determines the associated entry was invalid, fraudulent, or part of an attempt to manipulate a leaderboard.

10. Winner Verification

10.1. Potential winners must undergo human verification before a result or prize is finalised.

10.2. Verification uses the original catch evidence, the original measurement evidence, the original upload information, account records, competition records and other relevant existing Platform records.

10.3. Strike & Scale does not ask an entrant to provide replacement evidence to repair an inadequate original submission.

10.4. If the winning catch cannot be confidently verified from the evidence already available, it must not be confirmed as the winner and may be rejected or disqualified.

11. Anti-Manipulation

11.1. Strike & Scale may void, disregard or disqualify entries where it reasonably determines that a Member has attempted to obtain or share the target length improperly, or has otherwise attempted to distort the result.

11.2. Duplicate accounts, account sharing and coordinated manipulation are prohibited, as set out in the Competition Rules.

12. Rule Changes

12.1. Strike & Scale may amend, suspend or cancel Mystery Length competitions where reasonably necessary for legal, operational, security or technical reasons.

12.2. Strike & Scale’s decisions on all competition matters are final, subject to rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.
